About the Organisation

Bourke Aboriginal Health Service (BAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service that provides primary health care services initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care to the community. BAHS provides a wide range of clinical services and support programs with a focus on Chronic Disease, Primary Health Care, such as: Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Dental, Mental Health, and Drug and Alcohol related issues.

About the Opportunity

Bourke Aboriginal Health Service now has an exciting leadership opportunity for a full-time Chief Executive Officer to join their team in Bourke, NSW on a 3-year permanent contract. 

Working closely with the Deputy CEO, this role will see you responsible and accountable to the BAHS Board for the leadership. As well as, efficient and effective management of the organisation in accordance with strategic directives, policies and procedures, as well as legislative and funding requirements. You will ensure the effective communication of the organisation's vision and strategies. 

Some key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Leading the redesign of the organisation as required to meet changing environments;
  • Providing regular updates to the Board regarding the performance of funded activities, community issues and any other matters relevant to BAHS business;
  • Ensuring adherence to corporate governance and that operations conform to the relevant statutory requirements and performance agreements with service/funding providers;
  • Managing and ensuring the transparency and integrity of financial reporting;
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of policies and procedures for human resources, information systems/management and financial management;
  • Informing the Board of funding, service reform and regulatory issues and trends which may impact on BAHS goals and operations; and
  • Ensuring that there are clear and appropriate practices in performance management of employee and identify training programs that will meet skill development needs.

This is an identified Aboriginal position; exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)

About You

The successful candidate will need to hold relevant tertiary qualifications in management, health management, business or similar discipline with a minimum of five years senior management experience.

BAHS is seeking an experienced senior leader who has established a successful career in corporate services and/or health services. Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these skills in strategic planning, business development and advocacy, will ensure your success. 

Due to the nature of the role, you must have an understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and aspirations, along with knowledge of community controlled health organisations and how they operate. You must be able to work collaboratively with people from a range of cultural and social backgrounds. A background in advocacy and/or any network relationships within the NT will be highly regarded.

As you will be building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, it is essential you possess superior relationship management, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

In addition, you will have proven ability in providing advice, making sound recommendations and implementing Board directions on complex issues as well as developing and implementing strategic, project and business plans.
